Program 1: Jeff Hatch, incumbent candidate for County Auditor
Auditor’s office has 4 divisions: Property Tax, Accounting and Operations, Budget, Internal Audit. Property Tax division takes care of property taxes including the auction of property if taxes are more than 5 years delinquent. Accounting and Operations pay all the bills . The Budget Office establishes the revenue budget, while the mayor’s office establishes the expenditures budget. Internal Audit office examines the efficiency of the county.
Regarding Property Tax auctions. Salt Lake County does a “Bid Down” method of auction. The sale starts at the entire property for the amount due. Instead of going up in price, the property gets smaller. The goal of this method is to allow just a portion of the lot to be sold to pay taxes so that the property owner can stay in their home.
Program 2: Arlyn Bradshaw, candidate for Salt Lake County Concil 1
Has worked for the last 3 years for Joe Hatch, the current representative for Council 1
Protecting environmental quality: water, open space, planning and zoning. Social Justice: Non-discrimination and diversity. Criminal Justice: Look for alternatives to incarceration. Continued excellence in Services: Arts facilities, recreation centers, etc..
“Working with the two cities in Council One extremely important for the area.”
Program 3: Cal Noyce, candidate for Salt Lake County Council 1
Grew up in Rose Park, involved with organized labor most of his life. One the United Way Board of Directors, on the Community Actin Program Board of Directors (Head Start). Helped organize ‘Pride at Work’ nationally.
“I believe the people are the government. We get things done by activating the people.”
Program 4: SLCC and Planning Staff
Salt Lake Community College would like to purchase a piece of land from Salt Lake City that is currently in the middle of their parking lot and is also used as parking lot. Zoning would have to be changed on this strip of land since it is currently zoned as an alley.
While there were no objections from the residents president, since this item was not listed on the Agenda, no vote could be taken. Chairman DeWitt Smith will write a letter to the City stating this. The letter will support the sale and rezone.

Officers’ Reports
- Chairman, DeWitt Smith DeWitt
- CHRISTUS Health is looking to sell St Joseph’s Villa. This is the Texas-based corporation’s only facility in Utah and this plus the lack of access to a Catholic Hospital in the vicinity affected their decision to sell. They have created a priority list for new purchasers: 1. Catholic Organization, 2. Other Religious-based Organization, 3. Non-Profit Organization, 4. Commercial concern.
- There will be a rally of British cars and Motorcycles held at Liberty park on June 19. The proceeds from this event go to the Salt Lake Community Council Network this year. They are looking for volunteers for participant sign-in between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. Contact DeWitt Smith at dewitt@darnfastnet.com if you would like to volunteer
