Review of Minutes from August 2009
Minutes accepted with one correction. Shayla DeGooyer is taking minutes at this meeting.

Officer’s Reports
- Chairman, DeWitt Smith DeWitt
- Meetings with Mayor Ralph Becker:
Mayor Becker is seeking public input on a Non-discrimination Policy.
Avenues Street Fair brings a $17K profit to the community.
Another community holds a plant sale which also gives them a profit. - Community Network Meeting with other Councils:
Other community councils are dealing with tear-downs for increased development and another with residential properties being used for commercial purposes against zoning. All Community Councils are invited to attend these breakfasts. - One -on-One meeting with Mayor Becker:
Discussed issues submitted to DeWitt regarding bicycle laws, dog parks, public education, perceived disregard of the planning commission for master plans as well as the wishes of residents, revenue sources for community councils, strength of community councils in having their voices heard, curbs and gutters along 1700 South and the Ron Heaps Memorial Park.
City budget has been hard hit by the current cuts.
Jill Remington Love is looking to do a book drive up Emigration Canyon - Treasurer, Steve Hunt
- No updates. DeWitt asked Steve to create a report on what sources of funding the Council has had in the past.

Committee Report: Safety: Mobile Watch, Drug Activity
Meeting changed to first Wednesday of each month
Responded to a loud party: noise ordinance is difficult to enforce.
Any suspected gang or drug houses should be reported to the Safety Committee.
Committee Report: Grants/Funding: CDBG grants in process
Grants were submitted and will now go through citizens’ review. If approved, the fund will be distributed in the 2010-2011 fiscal year.
Historic overlay received first funding for historic renovation within certain parameters.
Other Old Business: Community Network, Life on State, Public Safety Building
Life on State will be presenting at our meeting in either October or November. DeWitt has invited the People’s Freeway Community Council to join us for this presentation.
Mayor Becker is busy explaining the proposal for a new Public Safety Building.
A motion was made and passed for a letter to Jill Remington Love and Mayor Becker requesting money from the stimulus funds.

September is Emergency Preparedness Month. The mayor’s office is looking for input on the Alcohol Normalization ordinance. Comments can be submitted at slcgov.com

Report from Police Department: Det. Tom Potter
Police department down 70 officers for the year due to budget cuts.
Program: SLCC: Grand Theatre
